Volunteer Tutor - For High School & University Students

We are seeking dedicated high school and college/university volunteers to join our team and help provide quality education in the subjects of English, Mathematics, French, Science, Coding, and Mandarin to elementary school students in need in Canada. As a volunteer tutor, you will be eligible for high school volunteer hours while gaining valuable teaching experience. Classes are held once a week for one hour via our Zoom platform from September to June, with regular school holidays and flexible hours to accommodate your schedule. No prior experience is required, and all necessary curriculum materials, such as worksheets, textbooks, and lesson slideshows, are provided (but you are always welcome to bring your own). Apply here: apply.youthunitedproject.com Location: ONLINE - You must be able to accommodate Eastern Standard Time (EST) zone Responsibilities: - Support our mission of providing equal educational opportunities to all children - Teach core principles, concepts, and basics relevant to the subject at an elementary school level through lessons, tests/quizzes and activities (e.g., science topics, math concepts, language skills) - Work with students to enhance their skills in the specific subject area and identify their individual needs - Assign and correct homework and assessments as needed to ensure understanding and progress - Regularly evaluate student progress and discuss progress with students and/or their parents to provide feedback and support - Communicate regularly with students, parents, and executives to ensure quality of tutoring sessions and educational experience Qualifications: - Must be enrolled in high school, college/university, or higher education and be in good academic standing - Demonstrated proficiency (minimum Grade 8 level) in the subject area you wish to tutor - Ability to explain concepts clearly (through simplified and easy-to-comprehend means) and communicate effectively with young students and their parents - Capable of working independently while meeting all commitments and deadlines - No prior teaching-specific experience is required Expectations: - Engage students with activities through resources provided in the curriculum folders or through self-sourced resources - Assign and correct homework and assessments when necessary - Evaluate students' progress and discuss with students and/or their parents. Mathematics Tutor: - Identify student’s needs and work with students to improve their skills in Math - Teach and review a variety of math concepts with worksheets & textbooks English Tutor: - Identify students’ needs and work with students to improve their skills in English - Read and analyze a variety of fiction and non-fiction books. (provided) - Analyze reading comprehension questions (provided) which incorporate the aspects of knowledge & understanding, thinking, application, and communication - Study the basics of writing analysis and grammatical writing and be able to explain them to students in an effective and clear manner French Tutor: - Identify students’ needs and work with students to improve their skills in French - Read and analyze a variety of fiction and non-fiction books. (provided) - Understand the core principles of grammar, sentence structure, and language basics - Study the basics of writing analysis and grammatical writing. Science Tutor: - Identify students’ needs and work with students to improve the core concepts of Science - Teach and review a variety of key science concepts appropriate to students’ level. (Ranging from Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Climate Change) Coding Tutor: - Teach coding language(s) of choice with excellent knowledge and concepts and skills to ensure students’ understanding and learning. Mandarin Tutor: - Teach Mandarin/simplified Chinese in different aspects (reading, writing, speaking, grammar) Questions?
