Board Member for Grassroots Seniors Charity!

Ongoing
About More at Home Society

More at Home Society is a registered charity in British Columbia supporting low- and moderate-income seniors who fall into the “grey area” of care. These are seniors who receive little to no public home support, cannot afford private care, and do not need long-term care but are often left with no real options. We provide financial support for home care services so seniors can age safely, with dignity, autonomy, and choice, in their own homes.

We are a grassroots, growing organization focused on practical solutions, systems change, and advocacy. Our work sits at the intersection of aging, health care gaps, and community-based support.

About the Role
We are seeking engaged, self-motivated individuals to join our Working Board of Directors. This is a hands-on volunteer role suited for people who want to actively contribute their skills and help build meaningful change for seniors in British Columbia.

Our board is a collaborative team of professionals bringing different skill sets to the table. Board members are not passive advisors. They are doers who help shape strategy, contribute expertise, and move work forward alongside staff and volunteers.

This role is best suited for individuals who are comfortable working in a start-up nonprofit environment and who are motivated by impact, problem-solving, and building something that matters.

What You Will Do
• Participate in board meetings and strategic discussions
• Contribute hands-on support in your area of expertise
• Help guide organizational growth, partnerships, and sustainability
• Support governance responsibilities, including fiduciary oversight and accountability
• Act as an ambassador and champion for More at Home Society in the community

We are particularly interested in individuals with experience or interest in one or more of the following areas:
• Individuals who have the time, energy, and genuine interest to contribute to building and growing the organization actively.
• Government relations and policy or advocacy
• Volunteer coordination and engagement
• Communications, including writing newsletters, blog posts, and impact stories
• Social media and digital engagement (non-commercial, mission-focused storytelling)
• Community partnerships and stakeholder relationships
• Event and/or Fundraising expertise

Who We Are Looking For
• Self-started, reliable, and comfortable working independently
• Values-driven and aligned with our mission to support seniors aging in place
• Willing to contribute time, skills, and thoughtful input
• Collaborative and respectful, with an interest in systems change
• Previous board experience is an asset but not required
Time Commitment
This is a volunteer role with a meaningful level of engagement. Time commitment varies depending on your role on the board but generally includes monthly meetings and additional time contributing to specific initiatives or projects.

Why Join More at Home Society
• Be part of a growing organization addressing a critical gap in seniors’ care
• Use your skills in a way that creates tangible, human impact
• Help shape innovative, community-based solutions
• Work alongside a passionate, values-aligned team
• Contribute to long-term change for seniors across British Columbia

How to Apply
If you are interested in joining our Working Board, please contact us with a brief introduction and summary of your experience and interests. We welcome conversations before commitment and are happy to explore how we can support your volunteer needs as well.
Why should you volunteer for this opportunity?
Volunteers gain the opportunity to use their skills in a meaningful way, help build a growing organization from the ground up, and see their time and effort translate into real impact for seniors aging at home. This role offers purpose-driven experience, collaboration with a motivated team, and the chance to contribute to lasting change.
