At More at Home, we provide financial subsidies to low-moderate income seniors to give the equity of options to access home care services to age in place. We’re a passionate group of volunteers working to change the way we think about aging. We believe that growing older shouldn’t mean feeling unsupported, losing choices, or being pushed into an institutional box. Every volunteer role helps us bring the options, dignity and equity to low- and moderate-income seniors.

When we help one senior, we’re not just changing their life; we’re impacting families, caregivers and entire communities; it’s a ripple effect that also benefits our healthcare and home care systems. The statistics around aging are deeply alarming, and they show us just how urgent this change.

We truly value our diverse volunteers and appreciate the time and effort they contribute. Our organization is rooted in inclusivity, allyship and embraces diversity, ensuring that everyone’s voice is heard and respected. Together, we can create a world where every senior feels valued, supported, and empowered to live life on their terms.

Just a couple of current statistics that motivate us;

1. Life expectancy in public home care facilities has declined to just 2.3 years, compared to 5 years in private facilities.
2. 4200 long-term beds in BC’s public home care could instead be supported at home with home care support. Meanwhile, there are thousands of BC seniors on the waitlist for a bed.
3. Public home care fees are often unaffordable ($8,800) for low-income individuals, focusing solely on personal hygiene with visits limited to 15 minutes, and creating barriers to aging in place.
4. 65% of family caregivers report depression, as the strain and fatigue of caregiving responsibilities significantly diminish their quality of life.
