Our mission is to foster literacy and a love of reading among young people in Alberta by providing access to the province’s literary artists and their work.

Literacy unlocks the door to self-expression, creativity, and imagination.

It’s also a key to learning, communication, and critical thinking. Educators need a robust toolbox to inspire children and teens to take a break from screens and embrace books.

To meet our mission, we offer programs that bring together Albertan kids and youth in schools and libraries with professional literary artists for presentations and workshops.

Presentations by professional authors, illustrators, and storytellers are a vibrant and dynamic tool to get kids excited about reading and writing.

We strive to give Alberta’s children and youth the basis for the quality of life they deserve. Through our programs, we create opportunities for Alberta’s young people to be inspired by the province’s literary artists. Every child should experience the joy of reading and writing and have the opportunity to experience the arts to discover their creativity and imagination and to develop strong literacy skills.

YABS has brought together a diverse pool of talented Albertan authors, illustrators and storytellers who create for a variety of ages. Membership with YABS helps them bring the literary arts into classrooms and enrich the lives of children and youth through workshops, readings, and presentations.
