Event Help Volunteer-Event Planner/Organizer
Autism Independent Living Association (AiLA) is an Edmonton-based charity dedicated to building an intentional supportive housing community for autistic adults in Edmonton. AiLA supports autistic adults with mild to moderate needs to develop to their full potential by providing person-centred care needed to live independently in the community. Our Mission Focus • Foster a supportive community for autistic adults and their families. • Support leadership skill development for autistic adults. • Support independent living skill development for autistic adults who will live in the community. • Build a sustainable and intentional housing community led by autistic adults and their allies. Are you friendly, organized, and interested in helping community events run smoothly? AiLA is looking for dedicated Event Help Volunteers to help plan and support activities, fundraisers, information tables, and community events that help raise awareness of AiLA’s mission. AiLA also has an active Health, Wellness and Social Committee and Movie Club, led by autistic adults, and they are looking for volunteers to help them with the logistics of planning activities such as finding events in the City, researching prices, generating ideas and helping with the logistical coordinating of the activities and movies. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys welcoming people, pitching in where needed, and helping create a positive experience for event guests, volunteers, families, supporters, and community partners. Your support will help AiLA build community connections and strengthen awareness of supportive housing and independent living opportunities for autistic adults. Main Responsibilities • Assist with event set-up and take-down, including tables, chairs, signage, materials, and displays. • Welcome guests, volunteers, families, supporters, and community members in a friendly and respectful manner. • Help with registration, check-in, information tables, activity stations, or other event support roles as needed. • Share basic information about AiLA’s mission and direct detailed questions to the appropriate AiLA representative. • Support fundraising, awareness, or community engagement activities during events. • Monitor event areas and help keep spaces tidy, safe, accessible, and welcoming. • Assist with distributing materials, collecting feedback, or helping guests find information. • Work cooperatively with AiLA volunteers and event organizers to help the events run smoothly. • Represent AiLA in a respectful and inclusive way that reflects support for autistic adults and their families. Events may be held at community centres, libraries, fundraising venues, outdoor spaces, or other public locations in Edmonton. Location details will be shared for each event. Required Qualifications and Skills • Friendly, reliable, and willing to help with a variety of event tasks. • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. • Ability to follow directions and ask questions when clarification is needed. • Comfort interacting with the public, volunteers, families, and community partners. • Respect for confidentiality, privacy, and the dignity of autistic adults and their families. • Ability to work as part of a team in a positive and flexible way. • Previous experience with events, customer service, volunteering, fundraising, or community engagement is an asset, but not required. Time Commitment Flexible and event based. Scheduling will depend on AiLA’s event calendar and volunteer availability. Some events may include evenings or weekends.
