This volunteer is passionate about enhancing Surfrider’s ocean conservation efforts through communications. This volunteer role involves managing Surfrider Foundation South Vancouver Island communications, from social media platforms, press releases, online and print content, advertising, and marketing strategies. The Communications Volunteer is part of the Media team, and will work closely with the lead of this group, with the aim of growing Surfrider’s audience and increasing impact through this growth. The Communications Volunteer will need to gain comprehensive understanding of all campaigns, programs and events in order to effectively communicate about Surfrider Foundation efforts with the public. Key Responsibilities: -Monthly meetings with Surfrider SVI team -Evolving internal and external communications plan -Create shareable content that educates, empowers, and engages audience members. -Content will also promote Surfrider Foundation brand and mission. -Sharing current articles on plastic pollution and solutions, circular economics, and ocean conservation on Facebook and Instagram. -Development of print and online advertising -Tagging all businesses, organizations and individuals that Surfrider SVI works with on social media channels -Contacting media channels along to inquire about Surfrider sharing articles, opinions, content. -Aiding with website content and website marketing. -Contacting media channels to inquire about Surfrider sharing articles, opinions, content, interview contact -Providing expertise on how to attract more attention from media outlets -Uses Surfrider SVI email address for all surfrider communications & checks this chapter email account and replies to emails within 2 days -Completes SF Canada University in 3 months https://cnet.surfrider.org/training/sfu/ -Contributes to the development and implementation of the chapter strategic plan -Liaise with new and existing stakeholders, media, sponsors and partners -Attends Surfrider public meetings & events when available -Joins/follows/likes; official Surfrider SVI Facebook page, public forum, Instagram feeds
