The Kaleidoscope Mental Health Support Society is a charitable nonprofit organization in British Columbia. We strive to provide a mutual aid model of peer support for individuals who identify with having lived experience of mental health concerns in a safe(r), non-judgmental, stigma-free environment. Position Overview We are seeking dedicated and passionate individuals to join our Board of Directors for a minimum 1-year term. As a board member, you will have the opportunity to provide strategic direction, governance, and oversight to help further our mission. This is a volunteer role that plays a critical part in the growth and sustainability of our organization. Board members are essential in ensuring that our organization adheres to its mission, maintains financial health, and complies with legal and ethical standards. Key Responsibilities 1. Governance & Oversight: Participate in regular board meetings and provide strategic guidance to the organization. 2. Strategic Planning: Help develop and approve the organization's strategic goals and priorities. 3. Financial Oversight: Review and approve the annual budget, monitor financial performance, and ensure sound fiscal management. 4. Fundraising & Development: Support fundraising efforts by leveraging your network, participating in events, and making a personal financial contribution (if applicable). 5. Advocacy & Ambassadorship: Act as an ambassador for the organization, promoting its mission within your networks and the broader community. 6. Compliance: Ensure the organization meets its legal and ethical obligations as a registered Canadian charity. 7. Committees: Actively participate in at least one board committee or working group. Qualifications a. Passion for the Cause: A strong commitment to the mission and values of the organization. b. Leadership Experience: Prior experience serving on boards or in leadership roles (preferable but not required). c. Fundraising Expertise: Willingness to contribute to and lead fundraising initiatives. Strategic Thinking: The ability to think critically about complex issues and make well-informed decisions. d. Team Player: Ability to collaborate effectively with fellow board members and the organization’s leadership. e. Diversity: We seek individuals with diverse backgrounds and perspectives to ensure the board reflects the communities we serve. f. Professional Skills: Expertise in areas such as law, finance, marketing, nonprofit management, advocacy, etc. would be considered an asset.
Additional Details & Skills Required
Experience in leadership, policy development, governance etc. in nonprofit organizations.
