Volunteer Board Member – Mental Health Peer Support

The Kaleidoscope Mental Health Support Society is a registered Canadian charity and nonprofit society based in British Columbia. We provide peer support grounded in mutuality for people with lived and living experience of mental health concerns.

We are seeking dedicated individuals to join our Board of Directors for a one-year term, with the possibility of re-election. We welcome applicants who have volunteered with Kaleidoscope, have previous board or leadership experience, or bring other relevant community and lived experience.

Knowledge or experience in areas such as law, finance, marketing and communications, nonprofit management, fundraising, advocacy, peer support, or mental health would be considered an asset. We recognize that valuable knowledge can come from professional, volunteer, educational, community, and lived experience.

Key responsibilities include:

1. Governance and oversight: Attend and actively participate in approximately three to four board meetings per year and help oversee the organization’s activities and direction.
2. Strategic planning: Contribute to the development, approval, and monitoring of Kaleidoscope’s goals and priorities.
3. Financial oversight: Review and approve the annual budget and financial reports and support responsible stewardship of the organization’s resources.
4. Fundraising and sustainability: Contribute to fundraising and resource-development efforts in ways that reflect your skills, interests, and capacity. Personal financial contributions are not required.
5. Advocacy and ambassadorship: Help raise awareness of Kaleidoscope and build relationships within the community.
6. Legal and ethical stewardship: Support the organization in meeting its responsibilities as a BC nonprofit society and registered Canadian charity.
7. Committee or project participation: Where possible, contribute to a committee, working group, or time-limited project such as marketing, grant writing, or website development.
