Offer a helping hand to a senior in Vancouver! 
Friends of May is a free program at AIDS Vancouver that offers an opportunity to form a connection with an older adult. Seniors are matched with volunteers with whom they can socialize and receive support with simple, day-to-day tasks. 

Volunteers may choose to participate in activities such as: 
-Friendly visiting
-Community outings  
-Light housekeeping 
-Cultural connections
-Meal preparation
-Grocery delivery 
-Assistance with technology 
-Transportation/accompaniment to destinations or appointments 

Pairings are made based on client needs and goals, any common interests or values, languages spoken, volunteer/client availability, etc.

The frequency of volunteer visits will vary according to individual client needs and may range anywhere from a minimum of one visit per month to a maximum of twice per week. 

Friends of May is named after one of AIDS Vancouver’s longest standing volunteers, May McQueen. May volunteered with previous iterations of this program, as well as reception and prison outreach, and we are pleased to honour her contributions to our communities through the name of this program.
Why should you volunteer for this opportunity?
- Volunteers can collect hours of experience for school or work resume
- Volunteers may receive a reference letter after minimum number of hours completed
- AIDS Vancouver will pay for training related to: Crisis Intervention, Cultural Safety, Food Safety for volunteers to participate in
