About the Role
The Canadian Institute of Medicine and Scientific Research, a federally incorporated non-profit dedicated to ethical medicine and scientific advancement, seeks an experienced Alberta-based Lawyer to provide critical legal guidance regarding a breach of land agreement.
As our volunteer counsel, you will play a pivotal role in protecting the Institute’s interests and ensuring our physical assets support our long-term mission of national public service.
Key Responsibilities
Contractual Analysis: Conduct a thorough review of the existing land agreement and identify specific points of breach and liability.
Strategic Advice: Provide tailored legal opinions on potential remedies, including specific performance, damages, or alternative dispute resolution (ADR).
Dispute Resolution: Represent the Institute in negotiations with opposing parties to reach a favourable settlement without the need for litigation where possible.
Risk Mitigation: Draft or amend legal documents to safeguard the Institute from future contractual risks.
Qualifications
Legal Standing: Must be a member in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta.
Expertise: Proven experience in Alberta real estate law, land use agreements, or commercial contract litigation.
Commitment: Ability to provide high-level strategic oversight and handle 2–4 hours of consultation per month as needed.
Mission-Driven: A passion for supporting scientific integrity and health research in Canada.
