Peer Mentor - People living with Parkinson's
6 months
Are you ready to make a difference in someone's life? Parkinson Canada is looking for compassionate individuals who have lived experience with Parkinson's to become Peer Mentors. Receiving a Parkinson's diagnosis can lead to social isolation, as many people may not know anyone else living with Parkinson's and they may not feel comfortable sharing their diagnosis in groups or with friends. As a Peer Mentor, you will share your journey as a person living with Parkinson's with someone in a one-on-one setting. You will play a significant role in reducing stigma, building resilience, and empowering others to thrive and live courageously. Key responsibilities of Peer Mentors include: - Connecting with their match on a regular basis for a 6-month period - Facilitating discussion about issues related to Parkinson's - Communicating regularly with Parkinson Canada's Programs and Services team - Contribute to the evaluation of the program by completing a survey at the end of each match - Attending quarterly Peer Support meetings with Parkinson Canada staff and other Mentors - Whenever possible, attending professional development sessions
