Investigative Journalist for Responsible Dog Ownership Research in Canada

The Role We are seeking a passionate and detail-oriented Responsible Dog Ownership Research Journalist to join our team. This role focuses on researching and producing compelling, well-sourced articles, features, and interviews that spotlight different dog breeds, particularly from the perspective of Canadians searching online for puppies near them all the way through to bringing home new puppies. You’ll explore and highlight pressing issues in the canine world, such as how to identify a puppy mills versus ethical breeders, breed-specific health concerns, training best practices, and the importance of responsible and intentional breeding. Your work will be used to inspire, inform, and guide potential and current dog owners toward making responsible, well-informed choices. Key Responsibilities - Research, write, and edit original articles on dog breeds, responsible ownership practices, and current industry issues. - Interview breeders, veterinarians, trainers, and new puppy owners to capture diverse perspectives. - Stay current with trends, legislation, and news affecting dog ownership in Canada and globally. - Develop stories that balance emotional connection with factual accuracy, ensuring credibility and reader engagement. - Collaborate with the Paction team to create multimedia content, including short-form videos, photo essays, and breed profiles. - Promote awareness campaigns tied to events such as Responsible Dog Ownership Month. Qualifications - Strong research and writing skills with a knack for storytelling. - Passion for dogs and animal welfare, with an understanding of responsible breeding and ownership. - Experience in journalism, communications, or content creation preferred. - Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and produce high-quality work. - Comfortable conducting interviews and building relationships with sources.
