Youth CivicCorps Volunteer Program – Leadership and Community Impact Opportunity

Calling all civic changemakers!

CivicAction is recruiting young people ages 18–30 across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA) for Cohort 3 of Youth CivicCorps, a six-month volunteer leadership and community impact opportunity running from August 2026 to February 2027.

Youth CivicCorps brings together approximately 60 young leaders to build skills, gain project experience, grow their networks, and contribute to more affordable, inclusive, and connected communities.

Volunteers work in teams of 4–5 and are matched with a host organization for a 16-week community project. Projects may focus on housing, affordability, economic inclusion, community wellbeing, or another local priority. Activities may include research, outreach, communications, public education, resource development, event planning, or community engagement.

No previous leadership, volunteer, or civic engagement experience is required. We are looking for young people who are curious, committed, open to learning, and interested in working with others.

• Build leadership, communication, collaboration, planning, project coordination, and problem-solving skills
• Gain experience for a resume, LinkedIn profile, interviews, or future applications
• Connect with peers, community leaders, placement hosts, and subject matter experts
• Work as part of a supportive team
• Receive one-to-one support from the Volunteer Engagement Coordinator
• Access optional professional life coaching at the end of the program
• Complete 120 volunteer hours and receive a Certificate of Recognition from Canada Service Corps
• Request confirmation of volunteer hours and, where appropriate, a reference letter after successful completion

Eligibility

To apply, you must:

• Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person with refugee status
• Be between the ages of 18 and 30 at the start of the program
• Live, work, or study in the GTHA
• Be able to participate in required training, project activities, and check-ins

Hours and Timeline

Volunteers complete 120 hours over approximately six months. During the project period, volunteers typically commit approximately 7 hours per week. Time commitments may be lower during training and higher during active project periods.

The role includes a mix of virtual, in-person, and hybrid activities.

• Virtual Orientation: August 12, 2026
• Pre-Placement Training: August to September 2026
• Project Placement: September 28, 2026 to January 29, 2027
• Program Wrap-Up: Early February 2027

Participation Supports

This is an unpaid volunteer opportunity. Participants do not receive wages or monetary compensation.

To help reduce barriers, eligible support may be available for transportation, meals, childcare, accessibility, technology, translation, and wellness needs. Applicants may also request help completing the application or ask for an alternate interview format.

Application Process

The selection process includes a short online application form and a virtual group interview for selected applicants. Group interviews are expected to take place in July and August 2026.
