The Opportunity

The Africa Sixth Region Global is seeking a skilled, creative, and mission-driven Volunteer Communications and Marketing Associate to support the organization's public communications, marketing efforts, membership outreach, and digital visibility. This volunteer role is ideal for someone with experience in the nonprofit sector who understands how to communicate organizational programs, public messages, campaigns, events, and membership opportunities to diverse audiences.

The Volunteer Communications and Marketing Associate will assist with developing, organizing, and distributing communications materials for the organization. This includes preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual newsletters and online updates; supporting public awareness campaigns; coordinating with the social media team; and working with the leadership team to communicate the organization's membership package to the public.

This role requires strong writing, editing, marketing, digital communication, and organizational skills. The successful candidate should be familiar with nonprofit messaging, audience engagement, branding, and public outreach.

Duties:

• Develop, write, edit, and disseminate monthly, quarterly, and annual newsletters highlighting organizational updates, programs, events, partnerships, achievements, membership opportunities, and community impact.
• Prepare and distribute content for the organization's website, email campaigns, newsletters, and other communication channels.
• Draft and edit press releases, public statements, event announcements, stakeholder communications, campaign messages, member updates, and organizational reports.
• Support the Communications Lead and leadership team in developing clear, compelling, and mission-aligned messaging that advances the organization's strategic priorities.
• Ensure all public-facing communications are accurate, professional, culturally appropriate, and aligned with organizational branding standards.
• Support membership recruitment, onboarding, retention, and engagement initiatives through targeted communications and marketing campaigns.
• Develop promotional content highlighting membership benefits, leadership opportunities, volunteer pathways, programs, services, and participation opportunities.
• Assist in promoting organizational announcements, membership drives, fundraising initiatives, sponsorship opportunities, and strategic partnerships.
• Support communication strategies that increase public awareness, stakeholder engagement, membership growth, and organizational visibility.
• Liaise with the Social Media Team to ensure consistent messaging across all digital platforms, including the website, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok, Threads, and emerging communication channels.
• Support the creation of digital marketing materials, email campaigns, presentations, infographics, videos, and other outreach content.
• Maintain a consistent organizational voice, brand identity, and professional image across all communications and marketing materials.
• Assist in managing digital communication calendars, content schedules, and campaign planning activities.
• Support the communication and visibility needs of all A6RG Commissions, ensuring programs, campaigns, events, policy initiatives, and success stories are effectively communicated to stakeholders.
• Maintain media contact databases and assist in building relationships with journalists, media outlets, diaspora media organizations, influencers, and strategic communication partners.
• Assist with media outreach activities including interviews, media briefings, press conferences, media kits, and public awareness campaigns.

•	Minimum three (3) years’ work experience in global settings (preferably in a not-for-profit, intergovernmental, and public sector setting)
•	Strong written and verbal communication skills in at least two African Union and United Nations Languages (English and French)
•	Experience in social media, digital communications, online marketing, content creation, or related work.
•	Strong knowledge of Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, Threads, TikTok, Facebook, websites, and digital platforms.
•	Experience in communications, marketing, nonprofit outreach, public relations, or digital communications.
•	Strong writing, editing, proofreading, and public communication skills.
•	Ability to create and disseminate monthly, quarterly, and yearly newsletters and online updates.
•	Ability to work with social media teams to ensure consistent public messaging.
•	Strong computer literacy and comfort using online communication tools.
•	Adaptive, with ability to serve virtually using their own hardware (laptop, tablet, phone etc)
•	Willingness to be part of the founding team, to grow, and fam
