English Language Tutor

Bring the joy of learning to our communities by investing 1-3 hours a week coaching an adult learner! This position is specific to English skills relating to the GED and as such relevant English teaching skills that are demonstrated within the qualifications will be preferred. 

Learning is not always a fast process. We ask that you plan on investing a minimum of 3-6 months.  We offer professional development, ongoing support and resources for you to take the first steps in a rewarding journey of discovery.

Qualifications: 
●18 + and literate with good command of the English language
●Understands challenges adults have with low literacy skills

Responsibilities: 
●Attend basic orientation for new volunteers and workshops relevant to coaching
●Meet weekly with an adult learner to help them progress towards their learning goals
●Treat learners with respect as a mature and capable learning partner
●Maintain confidentiality and abide by guidelines
●Track time spent and progress
●Communicate regularly with the Literacy Services Coordinator
●Complete forms and progress reports in a timely manner

You will learn skills in teaching and tutoring, as well as regarding trauma-informed practices and inclusion and diversity.
