What you’ll be doing

The Friends of the Richard St. Barbe Baker Afforestation Area (RSBBAA) and the George Genereux Urban Regional Park (GGURP) are thrilled to announce the Afforestation Area ParticipACTION Community Challenge Pilot for June! http://www.friendsareas.ca/events/ParticipACTION.html 

We're seeking volunteers and community groups from Saskatoon and the surrounding area to join us in promoting health, wellness, and community connection. This exciting initiative aims to engage citizens in physical activities that not only benefit their health but also contribute to the greater good of their community. 

Why Should You Get Involved? 

Partnering with us for this challenge allows volunteers and community groups to play an active role in shaping the narrative around health and wellness, and to be a part of a movement that values diversity and inclusion.  What's the Challenge About? 

The goal of the Challenge is to encourage individuals and organizations to track their physical activity (Move Minutes) and contribute to their community's total Move Minutes. The more Move Minutes your community, individuals and a variety of orgnizations tracks, the better the community chance to win an amazing prize! Activities create a healthier, more vibrant community.

To assist in the activities, we have an event for each day in June celebrating a different activity, and commemorating diverse special days.   We need you to help bring awareness to these special days.  What are they you ask?  http://www.friendsareas.ca/events/ParticipACTION.html  Find your fit!

 Equity and Inclusion Are Key to involving everyone 

As we strive to create a campaign that nurtures diversity and inclusion, particularly for varying abilities and diverse cultures, we are seeking volunteers for this June Challenge, as well as community groups interested in partnering with us. If you have the skills to help us in building a more inclusive active lifestyle campaign, please contact us. Our events align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals of Good Health and Well-Being, Reduced Inequalities, and Life on Land, as well as the UN Decade of Healthy Ageing (2021–2030).

 By volunteering or partnering with us for this challenge, volunteers and community groups can help raise awareness about the importance of green spaces, an active lifestyle, sustainability, and diversity and inclusion, and inspire others to take action for a more active lifestyle!  This volunteer starts out virtually, and we invite you to any and all of the June events where you have an interest and aptitude to support!  The actual June events are in person with an option of supplementing activity and inclusivity with virtual events.

These events in June support health active lifestyles, CPR, first aid, Sports for Life, High Five, Post secondary or University physical activity classes and graduate training are all helpful certifications.
