Family Literacy Volunteer
Want to help Families gain ways to prepare for their child’s school success and increase literacy activities at home? Be a volunteer in our Family Literacy Program. Volunteers play an important role in encouraging and helping families with literacy activities to support children’s emerging literacy development. Our programs also build community connections and community involvement. Family Literacy programs are from 4 – 12 weeks in length and although it is great to have a volunteer for the full program length, we are flexible, and volunteers can commit to the programs, dates, and times that work best for them. Ideally when volunteers can commit to at least 3-4 weeks of a program, parents and children can build a relationship and trust. We also have Family Literacy events that only require a single-day commitment for 2-3 hours. Although our focus is learning, we have a big focus on playing and having fun. These programs typically run at various schools, libraries, and community spaces in Saskatoon and surrounding areas (Warman & Martensville). If you are interested in learning more, please attend our agency orientation which is the first step to becoming a Family Literacy volunteer. https://foundationslearning.com/volunteer/
Why should you volunteer for this opportunity?
Volunteers will be a part of a caring, supportive, and trained volunteer network that helps adults with their self-identified learning goals through our one-on-one Lead tutoring program. Volunteer Lead Coaches will be able to enhance and practice problem-solving, lesson planning, communication, time-management, relationship-building, and many other skills.
