Ongoing
Are you calm, patient, and passionate about helping others?
Are you a retired educator, IT professional, newcomer seeking Canadian experience, or someone simply looking to give back in a meaningful and flexible way?

Great news! Connected Canadians is actively recruiting Edmonton-area volunteers to support increasing demand for both in-person workshops and virtual technology mentorship and training.

To apply:

- Complete the online application
- Under “Who referred you?”, please write Volunteer Connector

As a Technology Mentor, you will play a meaningful role in empowering seniors through free technology training and support. Volunteers will complete Connected Canadians’ comprehensive training program, which provides the tools and guidance needed to become an effective mentor. Training includes the Steps of Service during a typical client session, guidance on working with seniors with varying needs, online security best practices, and more.

Responsibilities may include:

In-Person Mentorship – Support seniors during an interactive workshop held in Edmonton this August.

One-on-One Support – Provide friendly, patient help to participants as they ask questions, troubleshoot devices, set up apps, and build confidence online.

Workshop Support – Assist with educational sessions on key topics such as email setup, online safety, digital banking, social media, video calling, and other everyday technology skills.
Encouragement and Guidance – Create a welcoming learning environment where participants feel comfortable asking questions and learning at their own pace.

Flexible Future Opportunities – Volunteers may also have the option to support remote one-on-one sessions with clients across Canada, depending on skills, availability, and client needs.

This opportunity is specifically for volunteers who are available to attend an in-person workshop in Edmonton in August. Additional workshop details, including the exact date, time, and location, will be shared once confirmed.
Additional Details & Skills Required
- Volunteers complete a structured onboarding process, including 6 self-paced training modules, a group onboarding session, and a final role-play evaluation.

- Flexible commitment – volunteers can choose to support in-person workshops in Edmonton and remote sessions across Canada, depending on availability.

- Volunteers are matched with clients based on skills, availability, and client needs.

- Volunteers are invited to the Connected Canadians Slack community.
Why should you volunteer for this opportunity?
Join our Canada-wide team of Technology Mentors and make a meaningful difference by helping older adults feel more confident using technology. Volunteer virtually with clients across Canada and, when available, support in-person events in your area. This is a great opportunity to give back, share your skills, gain volunteer hours or Canadian experience, and meet a kind, supportive team of people who love helping others.
