ABOUT THE LEGACY BUILDING PROJECT The Legacy Building Project partners with Toronto families to design and build dedicated housing options — including secondary suites and backyard units — for adult children with special needs. Your volunteer time directly supports our North York pilot project, helping a local family secure long-term, stable housing. WHY WE NEED YOU We’re in the final push to make this home move‑in ready, and every volunteer shift helps us cross the finish line. Whether you join for a single morning or come back regularly, your contribution has a real, immediate impact. WHAT YOU’LL DO Choose tasks that fit your interests and comfort level: Painting & Finishes: Prep, prime, and paint walls and trim - Light Carpentry & Assembly: Trim work, fixture assembly, basic woodworking - Landscaping & Outdoor Prep: Planting, moving materials, light grading - Staging & Setup: Unboxing, arranging furniture and décor - Site Logistics: Organizing tools, clearing debris, keeping the site safe - Marketing & Outreach: Develop marketing campaigns and draft blog posts that can help us maximize outreach and actively promote the work we are doing. WHO CAN VOLUNTEER & WHAT TO BRING - Experience: None required! We welcome DIY enthusiasts, students, makers, and first-time volunteers. On-site guidance and orientation are provided at every shift. - Commitment: Flexible! Join us for a single 4-hour shift or drop in whenever your schedule allows. Attire & Gear: - Please wear comfortable clothes you don't mind getting dirty or painted. - For painting and decor staging: Standard closed-toe shoes (like running shoes) are fine. - For active build areas: Hard hats and safety gear are provided on site. (If you own CSA steel-toe boots, please bring them; otherwise, let us know and we’ll match you with tasks that don't require them!) WHY JOIN US?
