The Legacy Building Project

The Legacy Building Project is a grassroots housing initiative in Toronto dedicated to supporting special needs families facing housing crisis. We work with homeowners to strategize innovative solutions for families facing a loss of affordability in their current homeownership -- through strategic renovation and additions, which help generate income to support their evolving needs.

We believe that secondary basement suites, additions, and backyard dwelling units provide much-needed potential rental income to offset the evolving cost of managing their adult special needs children.

Our mission is to bridge affordable, intentional spatial design with community-driven execution. We envision a Toronto where neighborhoods are built by the community, for the community. By opening our job sites to volunteers, we provide a unique, collaborative space where local residents, makers, and hands-on enthusiasts can learn practical residential building skills while contributing directly to lasting housing solutions.
