Rehabilitation: Amputee Peer Support Visitor
To provide experiential support and knowledge directly from a peer support volunteer living with amputation to someone newly affected by amputation. This bridges the identified gap between medical and functional interventions with the emotional, affirmational and social needs of a person with a new amputation. Shifts: On call – Times to be scheduled based on need of patients and availability of volunteer.
Additional Details & Skills Required
• Former patient with amputation or individual living with amputation. Lower limb (leg) amputee experience preferred. • Ability to maintain confidentiality & set appropriate boundaries. • Must be able to perform role for duration of 90 min or more on site. • Good understanding of the needs of people living with amputation. • Ability to understand and be understood in English. • Effective communication and interpersonal skills (discretion, courtesy, empathy). • Ability to follow direction.
