Big Brothers Big Sisters Serving Grand Erie, Halton and Hamilton is looking for caring, enthusiastic volunteers to support our school-based group mentoring programs across Halton Region.

Our group mentors create safe, welcoming spaces where children and youth can learn, grow, connect with positive role models, and develop skills that last a lifetime. Whether you're facilitating activities, encouraging participation, or simply listening, your time can make a meaningful difference.

CURRENT VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:

GAME ON! PROGRAM MENTOR

Join a team of male mentors leading a daytime school-based program for elementary-aged boys. Through fun, interactive activities, you'll help participants build confidence, resilience, sportsmanship, healthy lifestyle habits, and positive relationships in a safe and supportive environment.

GLOW PROGRAM MENTOR:

Join a team of female-identifying mentors leading a daytime school-based program for elementary-aged girls. Through discussions, creative activities, and group exercises, you'll help empower girls to develop confidence, leadership skills, self-awareness, and healthy lifestyles in a positive and inclusive environment.

ADVENTURE CANADA CONNECTIONS PROGRAM MENTOR:

Help elementary-aged newcomer youth feel welcomed and connected as they adjust to life in Canada. Through fun, interactive group activities, you'll help participants build friendships, learn about Canadian culture and their community, and develop confidence in a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment.

BLACK CULTURAL MENTORING PROGRAM MENTOR: 

Support youth from the Black community aged 10–14 as they explore their cultural identity, build confidence, and develop leadership skills in a welcoming group setting. Through discussions and interactive activities, mentors from the Black community help participants celebrate Caribbean and African cultures, build meaningful connections, develop healthy life skills, and foster a strong sense of belonging and community.

HOMEWORK CLUB GROUP SUPERVISOR:

Support a group of high school mentors as they work one-to-one with elementary students in an after-school group setting. Adult Group Supervisors help sessions run smoothly while encouraging positive mentoring relationships, supporting the high school mentors, and creating a welcoming, engaging learning environment.

COMMITMENT:
•	Approximately 1 hour per week (Homework Club is approximately 1.5 hours after school).
•	Programs take place once a week at schools throughout Halton Region.
•	Most group mentoring programs run for 8–10 weeks, while Homework Club runs for approximately six months during the school year.
•	Training and program resources are provided before your program begins.
We're looking for volunteers who are:

•	Passionate about supporting children and youth.
•	Inclusive, respectful, and encouraging.
•	Able to serve as positive role models in a group setting.

No previous mentoring or teaching experience is required—just a willingness to make a difference.
