Ongoing
In partnership with the Canadian Caribbean Association of Halton (CCAH), the Black Cultural Mentorship Program is a group program that aims to create and develop mentoring relationships with a focus on celebrating Caribbean and African cultures. This program is offered to young people ages 10-14 who identify as being part of the Black community. Through weekly discussions and exercises, participants will have an opportunity to engage in group activities that focus on developing a strong personal identity while learning how to make healthy and safe choices in their community. Youth will be provided with a space to learn about cultural history, share experiences, establish social connections, discuss wellness strategies, learn about community resources and practice team building and leadership skills all within the scope of cultural mentorship initiatives. 2-3 mentors will collaboratively lead the group within a school setting during the day for one hour per week. Program is broken into 3 program terms throughout the school year (Fall, Winter, Spring) and each term runs for 8 weeks.
Why should you volunteer for this opportunity?
Mentors make a lasting impact on the lives of youth, will gain experience in mentorship, youth development, and leadership, and will contribute to a meaningful program that promotes connection and empowerment.
