YESS Summer Social Event Volunteers

YESS is seeking volunteers to support our Summer Social on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at Hazeldean Community League – Main Hall.

This event will bring together YESS leadership, team members, supporters, partners, and guests for an afternoon of connection, conversation, and celebration. Volunteers will help create a welcoming, organized, and smooth event experience by supporting event set-up, reception, kitchen and buffet support, guest flow, tear-down, and loading of event materials.

This is a great opportunity for volunteers who enjoy events, teamwork, hospitality, and behind-the-scenes coordination. Volunteers will receive direction on site and will work alongside YESS staff and event leads throughout their shift.

Volunteer Roles Available
1. Event Set-Up Support Team

Volunteers Needed: 3
Shift Time: 9:30 AM – 3:00 PM
Arrival Time: 9:30 AM

Role Description:
Event Set-Up Support volunteers will assist with preparing the venue before guests arrive. This role is hands-on and supports the overall event environment by helping ensure the Main Hall, reception area, and décor are set up, organized, and ready for the Summer Social.

Volunteer Duties:
Volunteers will assist with unloading the YESS cargo van, setting up tables and chairs, placing décor, and supporting the set-up of the Main Hall and reception area. Volunteers may also be asked to help with additional preparation tasks as needed to ensure the event space is ready on time.

Best suited for volunteers who:
Enjoy hands-on event preparation, are comfortable with light lifting, can follow direction, and work well as part of a team.

2. Kitchen and Buffet Support Volunteer

Volunteers Needed: 1
Shift Time: 1:00 PM – 7:00 PM
Arrival Time: 1:00 PM

Role Description:
The Kitchen and Buffet Support Volunteer will provide dedicated support to the YESS Kitchen Supervisor during the Summer Social. This role helps ensure that food, beverages, and buffet service are organized, replenished, and supported throughout the event.

Volunteer Duties:
When the YESS Kitchen Supervisor arrives at approximately 1:30 PM, the volunteer will assist with unloading food, beverages, and supplies into the kitchen and buffet area. The volunteer will help set up the buffet as directed, monitor and replenish food and beverage items during the event, and assist with clean-up at the end of the event. The volunteer will also help load remaining items back into the vehicle for return to YESS with the Kitchen Supervisor.

Best suited for volunteers who:
Are organized, comfortable working in a kitchen or food-service area, able to take direction, and enjoy supporting behind-the-scenes event operations.

3. Reception, Floater, and Tear-Down Support Team

Volunteers Needed: 3
Shift Time: 3:00 PM – 8:30 PM
Arrival Time: 2:45 PM

Role Description:
Reception, Floater, and Tear-Down Support volunteers will help support the event as guests arrive, throughout the reception, and during the end-of-event clean-up. This is a flexible role that helps ensure the Summer Social runs smoothly from arrival through tear-down.

Volunteer Duties:
Volunteers will assist with final set-up of the reception area and Main Lobby as required. During the event, volunteers may provide relief at reception so assigned greeters can rotate into the hall for other duties. Volunteers will also act as floaters, helping wherever extra support is needed. At the end of the event, volunteers will assist with tear-down and loading the YESS cargo van for return to the Whyte Avenue site.

Best suited for volunteers who:
Are flexible, friendly, comfortable helping guests, able to move between tasks, and willing to support both front-facing and behind-the-scenes event needs.
Certification or Education Required
Volunteers will receive on-site orientation and direction from YESS staff. Food Safe, First Aid, or previous event experience are considered assets but are not required.
