WILDEducation Intern
Position: WILDEducation Intern Time Period: May – August Hours: 16 hours per week Minimum Commitment: 4 months Location: Wildlife Hospital in Edmonton WILDNorth operates out of two facilities. This internship operates out of our Wildlife Hospital. Our Wildlife Hospital is in Edmonton and is accessible by public transit. Very limited parking is available. WILDNorth is seeking enthusiastic people who love wildlife, have a strong desire to learn, and work well independently and with a team, to assist us in teaching the next generation about the importance of wildlife in the community! WILDNorth is a non-partisan, charitable organization that provides compassionate care for injured, orphaned, and contaminated wildlife and educates the public on the importance of wildlife in our community. We provide a high standard of care to a wide variety of native and migratory species. Approximately 80% of our patients are wild birds (waterfowl, birds of prey, songbirds) and 20% small mammals (squirrels, porcupines, skunks, foxes). Duties: Working under the supervision of the WILDEducation Manager and the Social Media Manager, interns will: - Deliver pre-determined in-class and or virtual science presentations to elementary students (grades 3-6). - Deliver pre-determined in-class and or virtual science presentations to junior high students (grade 7). -Research, create, develop, and deliver wildlife and or environmental education programming for a variety of age groups. - Educate the public through wildlife related content (visuals, social media posts, videos, emails, articles, newsletter). - Host outreach booths at events (e.g. Edmonton Wildlife Festival, WILDRun) and interface with the public (dependent on in person events). - Film and photograph wildlife rescues (in the field) and patient care (at the Wildlife Hospital and Rehabilitation Centre). - Assist WILDEducation Manager with various duties as needed. - Assist Social Media Manager with various duties as needed. Interns are required to follow all policies, procedures and protocols at WILDNorth to ensure a high standard of animal care. Interns will also regularly interact and work with other facility volunteers, summer students, veterinarians and casual relief staff. Conditions: - All positions are voluntary; no salary is offered. Housing and transportation are not provided. Qualifications and Requirements: - Must be 18 years of age or older. - Must provide Police Information Check prior to start date. - Ability to represent WILDNorth in a positive light while adhering to our organizational vision and mission. - Weekday availability in May & June (during school hours). Assets: - Background in education or biology. - Experience working with children. - Experience designing and/or delivering educational programming. - Knowledgeable in science and nature topics (i.e. Wildlife Identification). - Project management experience. - Access to a vehicle is strongly recommended. - First Aid.
