Do you want to play a vital role in making the Wîhkwêntôwin neighbourhood an even better place to live? The Wîhkwêntôwin Community League (WCL) is a vibrant, volunteer-led non-profit organization dedicated to serving and advocating for all residents in our dynamic core community. As a board member, you’ll be at the forefront of guiding our league’s work and directly contributing to the well-being of your neighbours.

As a member of the Edmonton Federation of Community Leagues, we collaborate closely with the City of Edmonton and other key community partners to deliver impactful programs, events, and initiatives. Our board, composed of up to fifteen passionate individuals, provides the leadership and vision to make this happen.

Our Annual General Meeting is scheduled for May 27th and we are recruiting for elections that will be held for the following positions:

President, Treasurer, Garden Director, Social Advocacy, Director, Communications Director, Volunteer Director, Events Director, Programming Director, Hall and RecreAction Director, and Director at Large (2 positions).

We understand that your time is valuable. The minimum expectation for board members includes attending:

Monthly Board Meetings: Held on the first Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m., typically lasting 2-3 hours.
Committee Involvement: Participating in committees that align with your interests and skills.
Planning Sessions: Contributing to the strategic direction and future initiatives of the league.

Beyond meetings, board work can vary from approximately 6 to 15 hours per month, depending on the specific projects underway and the time of year. We recognize that different roles have varying demands, and we foster a supportive board environment. Our wonderful administrative support is also a valuable resource, helping to ensure each portfolio operates smoothly.
Why should you volunteer for this opportunity?
Like any volunteer commitment, your involvement on the WCL Board offers rewards that directly correlate with your engagement. By staying informed about community league operations, events, programs, and local happenings, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of your neighbourhood and have a greater impact. You’ll also have numerous opportunities throughout the year to volunteer at league events, contribute to committees, and champion projects you’re passionate about.
