Sherwood Park Area Volunteer Community Visitor, Grocery Shopper, Driver for Medical Appointments

Volunteers are needed in the Northwest & Southwest of Edmonton, St. Albert, Sherwood Park, Spruce Grove, and Stony Plain. Other areas of the Edmonton Zone are not in need of volunteers at this time due to surplus of applicants.

Volunteers are matched one on one with clients of the Assisted Living Program who have few informal social supports. Volunteers visit the client of their choosing in the client's home in community once a week for 1-2 hours with flexibility, or may take a client out to grocery, medical or urgent appointment if the volunteer registers as a driver. Mileage reimbursement  is available for the grocery and medical role where volunteer is without means to use alternate transportation services.  Volunteers provide companionship and engage in social activities, but do not do any personal care, no hands-on care, no lifting, no heavy work for the client

Volunteers must be 18, register in the ALA database, interview, provide a clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search & References, complete Orientations and sign positions description and confidentiality agreements
