Education Development Associate

Are you an animal lover looking to support a great cause? Our mission is to inspire, develop, and provide quality, evidence-based education, research, and other charitable activities in animal training and behavior.

The Education Development Associate is responsible for completing tasks related to the development of online courses and programming. 

Members of the Education Development team collaborate to see development projects through from start to finish. There are several stages in the process, each requiring a specific set of skills and knowledge. Together, we determine which tasks fit with your interests, skills, knowledge, and availability. 

Responsibilities include:
- Preparing and reviewing course materials
- Assist team members through development of curriculum
- Research course ideas
- Maintain quality control standards
- Team communication using Slack

Job Requirements – Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Understanding of animal training and behavior
- Critical eye and comprehension of science and scientific concepts
- Focus on quality and an understanding of what contributes to a good educational experience
- Interest in researching, experiencing, and critiquing a variety of courses 
- Technological skills including familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint) Google Workspace applications (Gmail, Google Sheets, Google Docs)
- Ability to communicate in a positive and encouraging manner
- Cultural competency skills
- Organizational skills
- Access to a reliable computer and internet
- Availability to volunteer 3-5 hours per week

Job Tasks:
Education Development Associates work collaboratively with all members of the Education team to achieve a variety of tasks. It is not expected that individuals will perform all of these tasks. Rather, the work is distributed according to expertise and interest. 
- Prepare materials following specific style guidelines
- Review course materials to ensure quality before proceeding to the next phase of development
- Check for accurate attribution of third party copyrighted materials
- Document any needed revisions to course materials and recorded videos
- Create and maintain documentation to assist new team members and to guide educators through curriculum and content development 
- Research course ideas and prospective educators
- Draft compelling course descriptions and promotional messaging
- Maintain course quality control checks throughout the development / revision process
- Offer ideas for workflow improvement
- Maintain a consistent presence by participating in weekly meetups and ongoing communication in team Slack channels
