About FTC Polaris

FTC Polaris is a community-based FIRST Tech Challenge robotics team launching in Vancouver. As part of STEM For The Future, our mission is to make high-quality STEM education accessible to every student, regardless of financial background or previous experience.

We're looking for a passionate technical leader to help build the team's engineering program from the ground up.

Position Overview
The Head Technical Mentor serves as the team's lead engineering mentor, guiding students through the design, construction, programming, and testing of a competitive FTC robot while fostering a collaborative, student-led learning environment.
This is an opportunity to make a lasting impact by helping students develop technical skills, confidence, leadership, and problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities
-Lead the technical direction of the robotics team throughout the season.
-Mentor students in mechanical design, engineering principles, and problem solving.
-Oversee robot design reviews and technical decision-making.
-Support students in prototyping, manufacturing, assembly, and testing.
-Collaborate with programming, CAD, electrical, and outreach mentors.
-Ensure safe workshop practices and proper tool use.
-Help students troubleshoot technical challenges while encouraging independent thinking.
-Prepare the team for scrimmages and competitions.
-Foster an inclusive, welcoming, and supportive team culture.

Preferred Qualifications
-Experience with FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) or FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC).
-Engineering, trades, robotics, or technical background.
-Strong mechanical problem-solving skills.
-Experience mentoring or teaching youth is an asset.
-Excellent communication and leadership skills.
-Passion for inspiring the next generation of engineers.
