Nature Calgary Speaker Coordinator

Ongoing
Commitment: ~6-8 hours/month
Meetings: 1st & 3rd week of each month (mix of in-person and online)
Term: Ongoing

Overview
Nature Calgary is seeking a dedicated Speaker Coordinator to help shape and deliver our monthly Nature Speaker Series and Bird Study Group sessions. This volunteer will play a key part in showcasing experts, researchers, naturalists, and community voices who help our members connect more deeply with nature.

This is an excellent role for someone who loves nature, enjoys meeting interesting people in the conservation and environmental world, and wants to contribute meaningfully to a long-standing community organization.

Key Responsibilities
1. Speaker Outreach & Booking
•	Identify and research potential speakers across nature, conservation, ecology, birding, and related fields.
•	Send invitations, confirm participation, and manage communications leading up to each event.
•	Coordinate logistics such as topic selection, format (online or in person), and tech needs.

2. Event Coordination
•	Host or co-host monthly meetings (1st and 3rd weeks of each month).
•	Ensure smooth delivery of both online (Zoom) or in-person sessions.
•	Introduce speakers, manage Q&A, and troubleshoot minor technical issues as needed.

3. Post-Event Follow-up
•	Ensure session recordings are saved and uploaded to Nature Calgary’s YouTube channel.
•	Send thank-you messages and maintain a simple record of speakers for future planning.
•	Record participant number of year-end reporting.

4. Collaboration
•	Work with the Nature Calgary board to align speaker topics with strategic priorities.
•	Coordinate with communications volunteers to help promote upcoming sessions.

What We’re Looking For
•	Interest in nature, ecology, birding, conservation, or environmental science.
•	Comfortable connecting with new people and communicating professionally.
•	Basic familiarity with Zoom (or willingness to learn).
•	Organized, reliable, and able to take initiative.
•	No prior experience required—just enthusiasm and a willingness to learn.

What You’ll Gain
•	Opportunities to meet leading experts, researchers, naturalists, and community advocates.
•	Experience in event planning, public speaking, and digital content publishing.
•	A meaningful role in helping Nature Calgary engage and inspire members.
Why should you volunteer for this opportunity?
This role connects you with researchers, naturalists, and leaders in Alberta’s nature community. You’ll build valuable skills in event planning, communication, and hosting while helping create high-quality programs for our members. It’s a meaningful way to support conservation, expand your network, and contribute to a respected local organization.
