Costume TEAM LEAD (Seasonal)

The Magic of Christmas Warehouse 4216 54 AVE SE, Calgary, AB, T2C 2A8 [map]
Ongoing
Are you an organized, people-focused leader who loves the holiday spirit? We’re looking for a Costume Team Lead to oversee our costume operations for Elves and Santas this season!

✅ You don’t need costume experience – you just need strong leadership skills and the ability to keep a team organized, on task, and supported.
❌ This is not a solo job – you will not be doing all the work yourself. Instead, you’ll manage the team and keep everything running smoothly behind the scenes.

What You’ll Be Doing:
While our awesome Sewing Team is already working away on creating new costumes (and are fully self-sufficient!), your job will be focused on managing the physical costume room and the volunteers helping out.

Key responsibilities include:
- Overseeing the organization, upkeep, and flow of the costume room
- Delegating tasks and guiding volunteers
- Keeping track of costume needs, cleaning, labeling, repairs, and prep
- Ensuring everything is ready for Santa & Elf appearances!

Weekly Volunteer Work Sessions:
Starting in mid-October, you’ll lead weekly drop-in meetings for costume volunteers. These casual sessions help us stay on track and knock out a variety of prep tasks.

Your job?
Come prepared with a task list, and guide the team as they shine boots, re-label costumes, clean items, and more.

Try-On Days:
As December approaches, you’ll also be in charge of scheduling and staffing the costume try-on dates – making sure everything is in place for fittings and final prep.

Time Commitment:
- Mid-October to late November: ~2–3 hours/week for weekly meetings
- December: ~2 evenings/week + 1 weekend day for try-ons and final prep
- FLEXIBLE TIMING! You decide the days of the week - and build a schedule that works for you
Exact time depends on team size – and we’re open to having co-leads to share the load!

Support & Resources:
- You’re not alone! Our outgoing lead, is preparing a full guide with timelines, tips, and everything you need to hit the ground running.
- She’ll also be available to support and answer questions throughout the season.

While this role is seasonal (October to December), we are ideally looking for someone who is excited to stay in the role for a couple of years. Building consistency in leadership helps the team run more smoothly and makes the transition easier year over year.

This role is perfect for you if you:
- Love working with people and building a team
- Are a natural organizer and communicator
- Want to be part of the behind-the-scenes magic of the holiday season
- Prefer delegating and coordinating over hands-on costume work
Why should you volunteer for this opportunity?
Leadership Experience
- Build and strengthen your leadership, organization, and people management skills
- Great experience for your résumé if you work in events, theatre, education, management, or nonprofit work

Be Part of Something Magical
- You’ll play a key behind-the-scenes role in creating a memorable, magical experience for families and the community
- Be a part of a joyful team that brings warmth and fun to the holiday season
