The Festival Chorus is one of the longest continuously performing amateur choirs in Calgary. In 2026, they are celebrating 67 years of music and wonderful choral concert performances. The Festival Chorus is a non-profit arts organization in Calgary supported by the Alberta Lottery Fund, Alberta Foundation for the Arts, City of Calgary/Calgary Arts Development and the Government of Alberta. The TREASURER is an officer of the Festival Chorus, a member of its Board, and responsible for all financial matters of the Festival Chorus. Duties are as follows: Banking Responsibilities • Coordinate any changes in banking signing authorities at start of new Fiscal year. • Monthly reconciliation of the bank statements. • Maintain GIC deposits. Receivables • Receive monies from Membership Secretary, obtaining copies of all receipts at year end for purposes of the audit. • Coordinate with Ticket Manager on final ticket sales and deposit all monies collected for each concert. • Deposit all cheques, cash and e-transfers in the appropriate bank accounts. Accounts Payable • Pay all approved invoices and expenses from appropriate bank accounts. • Maintain copies of all signed contracts for rehearsal venues, concert venues, paid staff, and artists for reference and financial audit purposes. Reporting • Prepare and distribute financial reports for all Board Meeting meetings • Provide financial statements for the Festival Chorus annual general meeting (AGM) • Prepare and submit annual returns to CRA (form T-3010) on time • Prepare and submit GST reports as required. • Prepare and submit annual reports to the AGLC (Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission) using the audited financials including Casino accounts as requested by AGLC in the fall. Budget • As a member of the Finance Committee, assist in preparing an annual budget for upcoming season for approval by the Board prior to the AGM. Auditing Financials • Provide all necessary/requested financial documentation to the Financial Auditor. • Answer all questions from the Auditor as well as the Audit Committee. Records Retention • Retain all financial records for six years, receipts for ten years. Older records can be stored in Festival Chorus library file cabinets at Arts Commons. Destroy unnecessary financial records in a timely manner. Qualifications and Time commitment: • Previous experience in a treasurer or accounting role. Minimum one year. • Ability to use computer accounting program, specifically Sage 50 software. • Having RepID is an asset • Good organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines • Time commitment is about 20-30 hours per month plus Board meetings (~2 hours every quarter) and AGM meeting (~2 hours annually). Most work can be done remotely.
Certification or Education Required
High School graduate minimum. Post-secondary an asset. Accounting certification an asset.
