Board Member - Legal Team (Remote/Unpaid Volunteer)

The Legal Board Member represents the Legal Team at the board level, serving as a liaison between legal volunteers and the broader organization. This role involves supporting legal initiatives, advising on compliance, shaping policy, and ensuring the organization meets its legal and ethical obligations. The Board Member also contributes to strategic decision-making and governance. Responsibilities: Represent the Legal Team at board level, communicating team goals, projects, and volunteer activities, and serving as a liaison between legal volunteers and the Board. Advise on legal issues impacting the organization, including compliance, contracts, policies, and provincial regulations in Canada. Oversee the development and implementation of legal frameworks and risk management procedures. Collaborate with fellow Board Members on strategic planning, policy creation, and evaluating the organization’s overall performance. Participate in monthly board meetings and serve on the Legal Committee and subcommittees. Provide timely legal reports, draft and review policies, and assist in evaluating team member performance. Disclose any actual or potential conflicts of interest and carry out other duties as assigned by the Board Chair or Directors. Required Time Commitment: 10 to 15 hours per week Attendance at all regular monthly board meetings (every 2nd Tuesday of the month) Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Law or Juris Doctor (J.D.)
