About Bright Lights For Africa Foundation Bright Lights For Africa Foundation (BLFA) is a Calgary-based nonprofit organization serving marginalized and underserved communities, including Francophones of African descent, newcomers, women, youth, seniors, and low-income families. Through culturally responsive programs, food security initiatives, youth development, community engagement, and family support services, BLFA works to strengthen dignity, access, opportunity, and community wellbeing. Position Overview BLFA is looking for a creative and passionate Social Media & Content Creator Volunteer to help share our work, programs, stories, and community impact with the public. This volunteer will support BLFA by creating content for social media, assisting with website updates, capturing photos and videos, preparing captions, designing simple graphics, and helping keep our online platforms active, professional, and engaging. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys storytelling, content creation, photography, short videos, social media, and community work. We are looking for someone who can help the world see and experience BLFA’s mission through meaningful and creative content. Key Responsibilities - Create social media content, including posts, captions, stories, reels, short videos, and simple graphics. - Support regular updates on BLFA’s programs, events, community initiatives, volunteer opportunities, and partnerships. - Assist with updating information on BLFA’s website, including program pages, event updates, photos, announcements, and community news. - Capture photos and videos during approved BLFA events, programs, workshops, and community activities. - Help organize photos, videos, graphics, and communication materials in shared folders. Support promotion of BLFA events, campaigns, and community activities. - Prepare content that reflects BLFA’s values of dignity, respect, inclusion, compassion, and community care. - Work with BLFA staff to gather program updates, stories, event details, and photos. - Ensure content is respectful, accurate, and approved before posting. - Protect participant privacy and follow photo/video consent requirements. Skills and Qualifications The ideal volunteer should have: - Passion for social media, content creation, storytelling, and community impact. - Interest or experience in photography, video, writing, graphic design, or digital communications. - Good writing and communication skills. - Creativity and attention to detail. - Ability to create clear, engaging, and respectful content. - Basic knowledge of platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Canva, Google Drive, Google Docs, or website tools. - Ability to work independently and as part of a team. - Respect for confidentiality, consent, and participant dignity. - Cultural sensitivity and respect for diverse communities. - Willingness to learn, receive feedback, and follow BLFA’s communication guidelines. Preferred Experience Experience is welcome but not required. This role may be a good fit for someone who has: - Created social media posts, reels, or short videos. - Used Canva or similar design tools. - Taken photos or videos at events. - Written captions, short articles, newsletters, or community updates. - Supported a school, church, nonprofit, community group, or small business with communications. - Interest in nonprofit work, community development, African communities, newcomer support, food security, youth, women, seniors, or social impact.
