Legacy Volunteer
Legacy Volunteers help Rose Cottage clients capture and preserve the stories, memories, experiences, and messages that matter most to them. Through compassionate interviewing, active listening, and thoughtful writing, volunteers work with clients to create a meaningful legacy such as a personal narrative, letter, poem, or calendar. This is a deeply rewarding opportunity to connect with clients, honour their experiences, and create a lasting keepsake book for them and the people they love.
Additional Details & Skills Required
• Create written legacy of RCVV clients by: o Conducting and recording a 30-60 minute initial interview, using the Legacy Guiding Questions (recording can be done with an audio recorder, pen/paper, or laptop) o Transcribing the interview and using notes to develop a legacy narrative, letter, poem or calendar (Volunteers must consider the intended audience for these legacies during their creation) o Conducting and recording a follow-up meeting(s) to review, make corrections and/or additions
Certification or Education Required
Strong writing and storytelling skills Editing and proofreading skills Strong active listening and communication skills Comfortable conducting personal interviews Compassionate, empathetic, and respectful Creative and thoughtful approach to storytelling Strong attention to detail Comfortable using Microsoft Office programs Basic office and administrative skills Experience with formatting documents or creating keepsakes is an asset Ability to organize information and meet deadlines
