PARKS CANADA AGENCY - Banff National Park

On behalf of the people of Canada, we protect and present nationally significant examples of Canada's natural and cultural heritage and foster public understanding, appreciation and enjoyment in ways that ensure their ecological and commemorative integrity for present and future generations.

Banff National Park is Canada’s first national park and encompasses more than 6,000 square kilometres of mountain wilderness and is part of the larger Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks UNESCO World Heritage Site. Banff National Park is home to 3000-metre peaks, alpine meadows rich with colourful wildflowers, brilliant blue glacier-fed lakes and the town of Banff and village of Lake Louise.

With four million visitors every year, Banff is the busiest park in the system. Conservation is as much about people management as it is about understanding and managing the wildlife and habitat in a dynamic mountain ecosystem.
