Grant Researcher & Writer (Volunteer)

10-15 hours / weekly
3–6 months, with potential to extend
Solidarity Eco-Haven Housing Foundation is seeking 1–2 dedicated volunteers to join our team as Grant Researchers and Writers. Our mission is to create sustainable, affordable housing for low-income seniors and veterans in Victoria, BC, and your expertise will be key to helping us secure the funding needed to build and maintain these vital community resources.

About the Role:
You will collaborate with our finance, fundraising, and leadership teams to research grant opportunities and write compelling applications to government agencies, foundations, and other funders. Most work is remote and can be scheduled flexibly, with one virtual team meeting per week and quarterly all-volunteer check-ins. You’ll play a central role in ensuring our organization’s structure, goals, and impact are clearly communicated to potential funders.

Key Responsibilities:

Research and identify relevant grant opportunities for affordable and sustainable housing in Victoria and beyond

Write, edit, and submit grant applications in collaboration with team members

Maintain organized records of submitted and pending grant applications

Communicate with other teams to understand upcoming projects and funding needs

Document and summarize outcomes from past initiatives for use in future applications

Assist with planning and supporting fundraising events and initiatives as needed

Required Skills and Experience:

Excellent writing and editing skills

Previous experience with grant writing or nonprofit fundraising

Strong research and organizational abilities

Ability to collaborate and brainstorm with a team

Passion for affordable housing, sustainability, or community development

Bonus Skills:

Experience in monitoring and evaluation

Strategic planning knowledge

Previous nonprofit or fundraising event experience
