Software/App Developer: help us maintain our mental health service navigation app!

2-5 hours
Ideal 1 year minimum commitment.
The Mental Health Society of Greater Victoria is seeking one (1) new member for our Mindmap team: a Software Developer!

As an organization, our mission is to improve mental health in Victoria by contributing to relevant education and improving access to local support services. We are currently developing a mobile app that will provide easier access to mental health services within the Greater Victoria Area and beyond! We’re searching for a software developer to help us with this project.

We are a 100% volunteer organization that adapts to our volunteers' availability. All tasks for this position will be performed remotely on a flexible schedule. However, we host weekly meetings on Mondays for the team to check in and work together. There is also a general meeting (for all members of the organization) held every 3 months. Currently, these meetings take place over Google Meet. On top of meetings, volunteers are expected to work remotely to complete their assigned tasks by the given deadline. This role will require 2-3 hours of work per week.

As a Software/App Developer, you will work with our team to help maintain our recently-launched mobile app. We are looking for assistance in squashing bugs and adding new features as we start to onboard our first users. This position will include working closely with the Director of Mobile App development, the design team, and our other stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and qualifications:
- Completion of a coding bootcamp, computer science degree, or other software-focused certification or at least 1 year of proven development experience (required)
- Experience or familiarity with React Native or similar technologies (preferred)
- Familiarity with GitHub, testing frameworks, and Figma (a plus)
- Demonstrates flexibility, self-motivation, and willingness to learn
- Passion for mental health and making a positive impact
- Based on Vancouver Island (preferred)

Bonus:
- Previous experience working on a mobile app
- Can work additional hours in the first few weeks

Required Documents:
- Resume
- Cover letter (tell us about yourself, your skills, and your interest in volunteering for a mental health non-profit!)

Please email the above documents to tereza@mhsvictoria.org in PDF format.

For this posting, we are limiting our search to people with previous experience in Software Development work; reach out to us if you need additional clarity about what this means. Please note that applications without cover letters will not be considered. The most eligible applicants will be contacted to schedule an online interview. We look forward to hearing from you!
