VCH Home Health 1-1 Outreach – Visitor Volunteer

Join us in spreading kindness to others in need.

One to One visitor volunteers provide in-home social and emotional support to older adult clients who are socially isolated and have limited social supports.  Through weekly home visits the visiting volunteer helps to support client’s independence and social activity.

Referrals to the Home Health program are client-centered, customized to suit the client’s wellness goals. Volunteers are introduced to client by supervising case manager.

•	Volunteer support provided by senior’s community healthcare provider and 
         Coordinator, Volunteer Resources

WHAT IS REQUIRED? 
•	Excellent competency in English.  A second language is an asset depending on client 
        needs. We currently have many clients requiring Cantonese-speaking volunteers.
•	Be available to set aside time for a 2 hour visit once a week on a weekday/daytime 
        between 9am-5pm.
•	A desire to share stories, mutual enjoyable activities, and walks with a senior
•	A passion for spreading joy to brighten someone’s day
•	Must be comfortable working independently with an adult client, at the client’s home 
        or in the community
•	Must be comfortable starting a conversation, patient, respectful, understanding, and 
        compassionate; and have strong interpersonal skills and good judgment.
•	Must adhere to client/volunteer boundaries and confidentiality.
•	19+ years in age


SCREENING

•	Complete an online Criminal Record Clearance
•	Complete online training modules
•	Provide two professional references (not family or friends)

SUPPORTS & TRAINING PROVIDED
•	VCH Home Health case manager involved with client will make the initial client 
         introduction.
•	Case manager will provide relevant information and answer questions regarding 
         communicating with client and their needs.
•	Orientation with Coordinator, Volunteer Resources

*Other languages can be an asset in this role. We currently have clients waiting who speak Cantonese, Arabic, Italian, and Gujarati/Hindi.
