UBC Career Days Event Assistant
Passionate about education and community? Vancouver Region Educational Services (VRES) is looking for volunteers. Help empower communities with affordable, accessible learning. Together, let's shape a brighter future through education. About Vancouver Region Educational Services: VRES is a non-profit organization committed to delivering affordable educational resources to the Vancouver Region community and beyond. We run a volunteer success program in collaboration with York Region Educational Services (YRES) where we recruit and mentor Canadian youth during their volunteer journeys. Our volunteer success program empowers youth to develop practical communication, teamwork, and leadership skills while providing free and accessible educational services to their community. Following your volunteer application, VRES will match you with a youth advisor who will help you construct a skill development plan (SDP). Using your SDP, your youth advisor will place you in a volunteer position that reflects your needs, interests, and abilities. In this way, we tailor your process of volunteering to reflect your ideals for personal growth and development. In addition, our volunteer success program offers a path towards paid employment. Over 50% of our employees began as volunteers with us. After volunteering with VRES, you will be put on a priority list for employment opportunities. If paid employment interests you, you may communicate as such in your volunteer application. About this opportunity: VRES is seeking Event Assistants for the 2025 Career Days at the University of British Columbia! UBC Career Days is an annual, two-day career fair that connects employers across various industries with students and alumni. The event takes place on October 8th and 9th, between 11:00 am-3:30pm. This year, VRES has a booth at the fair. We are looking for 2 volunteers to assist with on site event management each day. That is 4 volunteers in total. Develop your leadership and communication skills while helping to run our booth, promote our mission, and connect with UBC students and alumni. We will supply you with the necessary support prior to your volunteer placement to ensure your success. This includes mentorship, training, and workshop resources. Participation in training sessions counts towards your volunteer hours with VRES. The Event Assistant role is an in-person volunteer opportunity. Qualifications: We welcome new or returning volunteers across varying levels of experience! Volunteers are required to be: - Located in Vancouver or the Greater Vancouver Area - Between ages 12-30 - Interested in education, health, environment, and/or digital services - Friendly, respectful, and active when engaging with UBC students and alumni
Why should you volunteer for this opportunity?
The valuable services of VRES volunteers are rewarded with free perks, including: - Free access to volunteer conferences and fairs - Free 1:1 mentorship on personal growth and skill development - Free networking opportunities
