Volunteer Board Director

10-20 hours / monthly
3 years
Project Management Volunteers (PMV) is seeking new volunteer Board Directors to join our Board and help guide the organization through its next stage of growth and impact.

PMV is a grassroots nonprofit society that connects nonprofit and social-purpose organizations with volunteer professionals and provides project services, advisory support and project management education. Its work is powered by a strong community of volunteers and a commitment to creating meaningful impact for the organizations it serves.

About the Board Role
PMV’s Board is responsible for the governance and stewardship of the organization. Directors contribute their judgment, experience and perspective to Board discussions and decisions, helping PMV remain focused on its purpose, strategy, long-term sustainability and impact.

Board Directors are expected to:
Contribute to the Board’s collective responsibility for governing and supervising the affairs of PMV
Provide oversight of strategy, organizational performance, financial sustainability, risk and leadership
Prepare for, attend and actively participate in Board meetings and other governance activities
Bring independent judgment while listening to and considering different perspectives
Act honestly and in good faith in the best interests of PMV
Support a respectful, inclusive and collaborative Board culture
Maintain confidentiality and appropriately identify and manage conflicts of interest
Act as an ambassador for PMV and support its relationships and reputation in the community

Some Board members may also choose to volunteer in operational roles within PMV. These contributions are deeply valued, but they are separate from the responsibilities of a Board Director. Directors are expected to maintain appropriate boundaries between governance oversight and operational involvement.

Who We Are Looking For
PMV is building a Board with a complementary mix of skills, perspectives and community connections.
Our current areas of focus include:
Project management and PMO practices
Finance, accounting or bookkeeping
Nonprofit leadership and governance
Human resources and volunteer management
Adult learning, facilitation and workshops
We are particularly interested in candidates who demonstrate:
Sound judgment and strategic thinking
Integrity and accountability
Collaboration and diplomacy
Curiosity and openness to different perspectives
Empathy and respect for others
Comfort working in a volunteer-led organization
Commitment to community impact
PMV values diverse identities, lived experiences, professional backgrounds and community connections, recognizing that a diverse Board strengthens decision-making and helps the organization better serve the communities it supports.

Term and Commitment
Directors are generally elected by the membership for a three-year term, in accordance with PMV’s bylaws.

Directors are expected to commit sufficient time to prepare for and attend Board meetings, participate in occasional Board or committee work between meetings, and contribute to other governance activities as required. Historically, this has required 10 to 20 hours per month. The role is voluntary.

Candidates must meet the eligibility requirements established by PMV’s bylaws and the BC Societies Act, including being at least 18 years of age.

Why Join PMV’s Board?
Serving on PMV’s Board is an opportunity to contribute to an organization that combines professional skills, volunteerism and community impact. Directors help shape the future of PMV while working alongside other experienced professionals committed to strengthening nonprofit and social-purpose organizations.
