Project Management Volunteers (PMV) Sponsored Project
This is a PMV sponsored project. The Project Manager will enter into a 3-way partnership between the Client organization, the Project Manager, and PMV. This will include additional responsibilities and benefits for the Project Manager.

Our Client Organization
Island Kids Cancer Association (IKCA) is a Vancouver Island-based charity supporting children, youth, and families navigating a childhood cancer diagnosis. IKCA provides practical assistance, family connections, mental health and wellness support, and financial assistance to families across Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands.
As IKCA approaches its 10th anniversary in September 2027, the organization wishes to celebrate its impact, increase awareness of childhood cancer, strengthen community partnerships, and build sustainable support for future growth.

Project Summary
September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, making September 2027 a significant milestone as IKCA celebrates its 10th anniversary.
The organization is seeking an experienced Volunteer Project Manager to facilitate strategic planning workshops, guide stakeholder engagement, and help develop a comprehensive anniversary campaign strategy.

The project will be delivered in two phases.
PHASE 1 – Anniversary and Awareness Strategy Development and Campaigns Planning
The Volunteer Project Manager will work closely with IKCA leadership, staff, board members, volunteers, families, and key stakeholders to:
- Facilitate brainstorming and visioning workshops
- Explore awareness, fundraising, community engagement, and advocacy opportunities
- Evaluate options ranging from multiple smaller campaigns to one or more signature events
- Define goals, success measures, target audiences, and strategic priorities
- Develop a roadmap for activities leading up to September 2027
- Create an implementation plan and resource requirements
The outcome of Phase 1 will be a recommended anniversary strategy and approved project plan.

Required Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of project management experience
Experience facilitating strategic planning workshops and stakeholder engagement sessions
Strong communication and relationship-building skills
Experience working with nonprofit organizations is considered an asset
Experience with event planning, fundraising campaigns, or community engagement initiatives is considered an asset
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholder groups including board members, staff, volunteers, families, and community partners
Strong organizational, planning, and risk management skills.

Scope of Work
Phase 1 – Strategy Development
Facilitate strategic planning and brainstorming workshops
Lead stakeholder identification and engagement activities
Assess opportunities, risks, resource requirements, and feasibility of proposed initiatives
Develop anniversary campaign options and recommendations
Create project roadmap and implementation strategy
Establish project governance and reporting approach

Additional Information
We may proceed with interviewing and engaging applicants before the application deadline.
We may ask the project manager to mentor a Client team member to support raising awareness of project management techniques within the Client organization.
