Project Management Volunteers (PMV) Sponsored Project This is a PMV sponsored project. The Project Manager will enter into a 3-way partnership between the Client organization, the Project Manager, and PMV. This will include additional responsibilities and benefits for the Project Manager. Our Client Organization Founded in 1991 in response to community need, the Burnside Gorge Community Association (BGCA) began by providing child care, family support, and recreation services to residents of the Burnside Gorge neighbourhood. Since 2002, BGCA has expanded to offer a full continuum of support services to children, youth, and families throughout the capital region. Programming includes a range of childcare programs for ages 3.5 to 11; community and school-based youth and family services; housing and asset development supports; community recreation and special events for all ages; and a variety of community development initiatives. Organization Mission The purpose of the Burnside Gorge Community Association is to lead, promote and support initiatives which encourage healthy, inclusive, and socially just living. Project Summary The Burnside Gorge Community Association I (BGCA) is undertaking an awareness and fundraising campaign through holding one event (summer or winter to be determined) to create greater visibility for the Burnside Gorge Community Centre strengthen relationships with local businesses and residents, and generate revenue and long-term program sponsorship. This initiative will support BGCA’s mission to provide inclusive, community-based services to children, youth, and families across the capital region. This project will explore the feasibility of hosting a small-scale fundraising event in form of a beer festival at the Centre in either summer or winter of 2026 and planning for the event. The event aims to raise funds and community awareness through beverage and food vendor participation, and ticketed sampling. Key decisions around format (indoor vs. outdoor), timing, licensing, and vendor coordination will require research, relationship-building, and logistical planning. The Project Manager will play a central role in shaping the event strategy, engaging and coordinating stakeholders, planning and ensuring successful execution. Required Qualifications Minimum 5 years project management experience Event management experience (nonprofit or community-based preferred) Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills Familiarity with event licensing and vendor coordination (or willingness to research) Collaborative approach to leadership and problem-solving Estimated Time Commitment 4-5 hours/week Start date: April 15, 2026 End date: September 1, 2026 or December 1, 2026* (*Scheduling of this event and timing of the event is based on research results.) Scope of Work Support and conduct stakeholder research to identify potential partners, vendors, sponsors, and community supporters, format and timing of the event and synthesize findings into recommendations for the Executive Director’s approval. July/August or October/November - Planning and Coordination of a small-scale fundraising festival to raise funds and profile for Burnside Gorge Community Association (BGCA). Key responsibilities include but not limited to: Provide strategic planning consultation and support Lead project planning, timeline management, and stakeholder coordination Conduct research on event models, licensing requirements, and brewery/vendor engagement Develop detailed plan for the event logistics, including venue (indoor/outdoor), food/beverage, ticketing, and licensing Support vendor outreach, evaluation, and selection in collaboration with BGCA staff Track progress, manage risks, and provide regular updates to BGC leadership Deliverables Project Charter Feasibility Assessment (Research) Report Stakeholder Analysis and Engagement Plan Risk Management Plan Event Implementation Plan Resource Management Plan Including Vendors Status Reports for the Executive Director Accountability The PM volunteer will have end-end accountability on project deliverables, reporting to the Burnside Gorge Community Centre Executive Director, Suzanne Cole. Additional Information We may proceed with interviewing and engaging applicants before the application deadline. We may ask the project manager to mentor a Client team member to support raising awareness of project management techniques within the Client organization.
