Director of Workshops

3-4 hours / weekly
18 Months
About PMV
PMV is a unique, grassroots organization incorporated under the Societies Act of B.C. which focuses on connecting non-profit and social-profit organizations with volunteer professionals. Check us out at https://pm-volunteers.org/.

Our Culture
We started with a couple of project managers sitting around a coffee table talking about “giving back”. In our first year, 2010, we had 1 project and 1 volunteer project manager. Today we are proud to be on the threshold of helping almost 400 social profit organizations achieve their project goals through professional project management and have engaged over 500 participants in our workshops. That’s leverage. We continue to grow and find new opportunities. The diversity of our team and their range of experience and skills is simply amazing. We are truly making a difference, one project at a time.

Estimated Time Commitment
We anticipate this role will require at least 3-4 hours per week volunteer time, virtual. A minimum commitment of 18 months is required with an option to renew. Candidates living in the PST time zone are preferred.

About PMV Workshops
Workshops are a key activity for PMV. Part of our mission is to provide project management knowhow to the non-profit sector. Workshops are also key in generating funds for PMV’s operation.

Like so many others, we moved from in-person to on-line workshops during COVID and today offer both in-person and on-line options, as well as private and public options. Our core workshop is Introduction to Project Management for Non-Profit and Social-Profit Organizations, and it can be organized over 1 day, or two 1/2-day modules. We now also offer a series of shorter 3-hour Workshops on subjects such as Change Management and Risk Management.

Desired Qualifications
Ability to work independently with little daily supervision
Strong interpersonal skills and willingness to communicate with clients and colleagues
Ability to work on multiple projects with different objectives simultaneously
Knowledgeable in project management
Proficiency with computers and programs such as Zoom and MS Office suite
Experience leading adult workshops

Accountability
The Director of Workshops will have end-to-end accountability for Workshops management, and become part of the PMV Operations team. We anticipate 4 main components to the role:
1. Lead the Workshop team. Currently there are 3 active team members, all experienced in delivering workshops, as well as some supporting members. Leading the team encompasses encouraging/ guiding/ listening, onboarding and mentoring others at times.
2. Coordination. PMV has a dynamic structure including Project Services, Advisory Services, Technology, PMO, Operations, and Marketing & Communications. Since we don’t often have the opportunity to get together in person, the need to coordinate internally is very important. We have a weekly Operations Team Zoom call and a bi-weekly Workshop Team call.
3. Business Development. Workshops are an area with great opportunity for substantial growth in the next year or two. To get there we will need to smooth out and systematize our online delivery, organically expand the workshop offerings, expand the team and refine our marketing efforts.
4. PMV Strategy. The PMV Board, Program Advisory Group and senior leadership team members review and adjust our Strategy on a regular basis and Workshops will be a key component of those discussions.

Benefits
The major benefit will be the satisfaction of knowing you are truly making a difference. PMV will also provide a letter of recommendation to the Director at the successful conclusion of the term, and serve as a reference, if appropriate.
