For over 20 years, Leave Out Violence (LOVE) BC has been at the forefront of youth violence prevention, creating safe and inclusive spaces where young people can build confidence, resilience, and leadership through art, games, mentorship, and self-defense. We are seeking new Board Members who are passionate about supporting youth. Areas where board members contribute include: - Strengthening programs and measuring community impact - Shaping policies and by-laws - Supporting organizational processes - Overseeing financial health - Leading fundraising and building partnerships Board members usually commit for at least 1 year and are invited to 5 Board Meetings. Meetings are held in a hybrid format and other social meet-ups are planned throughout the rest of the year. A typical Board Meeting includes a report from the Executive Director with past activities, highlights and challenges, priorities fo the upcoming months and a financial report. Each Board member can also join work committees based on expertise and interest to work on Strategic Planning, Financial Committee, Program and Activities, Policies and by-laws. The Board is made of 9 Board Members, including 3 special positions: 1 Chair, 1 Treasurer and 1 Secretary. Chair (or Co-Chairs) The Chair leads the board and ensures it functions effectively by: – Leading board meetings and setting agendas – Supporting strategic planning – Mentoring new Board Members – Representing the Board at events and in the community Secretary The Secretary ensures proper documentation and record-keeping by – Recording and circulating meeting minutes – Maintaining Board records, bylaws and policies – Ensuring legal and regulatory compliance – Assisting with Board communication Treasurer The Treasurer oversees the financial health and ensures transparent reporting by : – Monitoring budgets, income, and expenditures – Present financial reports to the Board – Support financial planning and fundraising strategies – Ensure compliance with financial policies and regulations By joining the LOVE BC Board, you’ll be part of a passionate, values-driven community working to prevent violence and empower youth across British Columbia.
