Communications Assistant (Volunteer)
Kiwassa Neighbourhood House grows a welcoming and inclusive community in the vibrant Hastings-Sunrise and Grandview-Woodland neighbourhoods of East Vancouver, Located on the traditional, unceded and occupied territories of the Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), Səlílw̓ətaʔ/Selilwitulh (TsleilWaututh), and xʷməθkwəyə̓ m (Musqueam) Nations. We work to build a more connected, welcoming, and resilient community through programs and initiatives that support children, youth, families, newcomers, and seniors. Position Overview: Are you passionate about storytelling, design, and community building? We’re looking for three (3) creative and motivated Volunteer Communications Assistants to support Kiwassa’s communications efforts. This role is ideal for those who enjoy creating visual and written content, attending community events, and bringing stories to life. Key Responsibilities: - Design eye-catching posters, flyers, graphics, and newsletters using Canva for Kiwassa’s programs and events - Create engaging social media content for Instagram, Facebook, or LinkedIn - Take photos and videos at events and community gatherings (having a smartphone or camera would be ideal for this) - Help develop impact stories that highlight the voices and experiences of participants, volunteers, and staff - Assist in producing short-form videos or reels for social media - Support website updates on Wordpress (as needed) Reporting Relationships: This volunteer position reports to the Development and Communications Manager What we’re looking for: - Excellent written and visual communication skills - Comfortable attending and covering in-person events - Proficient in Canva, Instagram, and short-form video tools (Reels, Stories) - Basic photo/video editing skills a plus - Organized, reliable, and able to manage time independently - Passion for community work and inclusive storytelling - Experience with WordPress or email newsletter platforms is an asset - Previous experience working on social media content is preferred but not required
