Embers Canada (https://emberscanada.org/) is a not-for-profit social enterprise dedicated to creating economic opportunities for individuals facing employment barriers. Through our employment services, social enterprises, and training programs, we empower people to achieve financial independence and stability. Embers core business is a temporary staffing agency that matches individuals facing challenges to join the workforce with employers. We are seeking individuals interested in joining our Board of Directors to help guide and support our mission. About the Role The Embers Board of Directors is a governing body responsible for overseeing the strategic direction, financial stewardship, and operational integrity of the organization. Board members are expected to provide leadership in key areas such as: • Strategic planning and mission alignment • Financial oversight and risk management • Organizational and management capacity • Ethics, values, and governance • Stakeholder relations and community engagement The Board supervises the CEO, who manages the day-to-day operations of the organization, and works to ensure that Embers maintains the highest standards of accountability and impact. Commitment & Expectations • Attend bi-monthly board meetings (approximately 3-4 hours per meeting, including preparation time) • Participate in at least one board committee, which typically meets for 30-60 minutes ahead of each board meeting • Provide expertise, networking support, and guidance on an ad hoc basis • Support the organization’s growth through strategic insights, introductions, and community engagement Who Should Apply? We are looking for passionate individuals with expertise in finance, nonprofit governance or social enterprise experience. Prior board experience is an asset but not required. The immediate opening will require participation on the Finance Committee and it is therefore necessary for candidates to have a financial acumen, such as an accounting background, to help advise the Board on overall financial health and any risks we may face.
