-
The Downtown East Side Neighbourhood House is looking for volunteers to tutor elementary aged children from 3:15-6:30pm on Mondays from September 8th to December 1st 2025. We can provide a small honorarium ($) for this role (see below).

The grassroots, secular DTES Neighbourhood House (DTESNH) aims to provide a dignified welcoming space for our neighbours to participate in various community inspired programs, as well as leadership, social, and recreational opportunities.

The goal of the tutoring program is to provide additional educational support to children living in the Downtown Eastside. We do not require any official training or certification in tutoring. If you are comfortable and confident with helping children learn, that's what we are looking for! 8 kids regularly attend our in-facility sessions at the Downtown Eastside Neighbourhood House. This program is important for children growing up in the Downtown Eastside because it can offer them extra support in their studies and a fun space to spend time with their friends. Extra-curricular tutoring can help students to have a deeper understanding of concepts taught in school.

HONORARIA:
7 volunteer tutors who commit to, and fulfill a placement with us from September 8th to December 1st are eligible to receive a one-time gift of $75 cash at the end of their placement. This is not employment income. Honoraria is simply a small token of our appreciation for your significant contribution to supporting the young learners in our community advance their education!

ELIGIBILITY:
We have a 3 month commitment period for this role. Please note that those interested in the position must undergo a criminal record check review for the role, as well as a 45min phone interview/screening call.
