Position Title: Volunteer Expert PhD Robotics & AI Developer (Critical Tech Track) Location: Toronto, ON / Remote (Canada-wide) Commitment: 15–20 hours per week Role Description: CIMSR is aggressively expanding its mechatronics and advanced computing pipelines. We are seeking a world-class, deeply experienced Volunteer PhD Robotics & AI Developer to serve as a core technical anchor for our Cardiovascular Surgery Robotics Station. This position is directly aligned with the province’s Critical Technology Initiatives (CTI) framework, specifically targeting the Critical Tech Tracks in Artificial Intelligence and Robotics. You will work alongside our Principal Investigator to transition our low-latency human-machine interface (HMI) from a TRL 3 kinematic simulation into a validated, hardware-in-the-loop physical benchtop prototype. Core Technical Responsibilities: Optimize and audit a multi-threaded C++ control kernel running within open-architecture Robot Operating System (ROS) environments. Refine and validate advanced digital signal processing (DSP) math models, embedding modified Kalman and low-pass digital filters to strip physiological human hand tremors (4–8 Hz) in real time. Program and calibrate inverse kinematics algorithms for a 4-axis patient-side slaved mechanical cart driving 360-degree rotational instrumentation under sub-5ms latency limits. Mandatory Qualifications: Educational Credentials: Must hold a PhD in Robotics Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Science (AI/Computer Vision Focus), or Biomedical Engineering. Canadian Status: Must be a Canadian Citizen to maintain absolute compliance with sovereign technological development and national defense data security frameworks. Proven Experience: Demonstrable track record programming complex real-time autonomous systems, closed-loop actuator feedback controls, or advanced clinical imaging pipelines. IP Compliance: Must execute a comprehensive Intellectual Property (IP) Assignment Agreement prior to onboarding, vesting 100% of all custom code, ROS node configurations, and algorithmic modifications securely within the corporate envelope of 17395612 CANADA INC.
