Location: Remote (Canada-wide) Duration: Immediate start / 2 to 4 weeks (Project-based) ------------------------------ Position Description: The Canadian Institute of Medicine and Scientific Research (CIMSR), a federally incorporated life sciences organization, is seeking an immediate, short-term Emergency IT & Cybersecurity Volunteer. Following an international hardware loss and a critical system instability loop on our core operating workstation, we require a skilled technical professional to help secure our infrastructure, safeguard our research data, and implement robust identity access management controls. This is a critical, high-impact volunteer role that will directly protect proprietary scientific workflows and ensure the structural integrity of our administrative cloud environment during a critical funding phase. ------------------------------ Key Responsibilities: Session Remediation & Access Control: Audit our corporate workspace to invalidate compromised sessions, purge stale Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) device tokens, and enforce strict conditional access parameters. * Workstation Recovery Guidance: Provide remote technical support to troubleshoot and resolve a persistent Windows Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) restart loop on a primary lab machine. * Secure Hardware Provisioning Framework: Outline standard operating configurations (such as Full Disk Encryption, Endpoint Detection, and local data sync restrictions) for incoming replacement corporate laptops. * Cloud Infrastructure Hardening: Review and optimize access permissions across corporate repositories to ensure complete isolation of research data. ------------------------------ Qualifications & Skills Required: * Proven experience in IT Administration, Systems Engineering, or Cybersecurity Operations. * Deep familiarity with enterprise cloud suites (Microsoft 365 Admin Center or Google Workspace Admin Console). * Strong knowledge of Windows system diagnostics, recovery environments, and driver-level troubleshooting. * Familiarity with data protection standards, hardware encryption (BitLocker/FileVault), and enterprise endpoint security solutions. * Ability to act swiftly, maintain strict confidentiality, and communicate clear technical instructions remotely. ------------------------------ How to Apply: Please send an immediate brief of your technical background, resume/CV and availability to volunteersteam@cimsr.ca with the subject line "EMERGENCY IT VOLUNTEER – [Your Name]".
