AstroSankofa Arts Initiatives
AstroSankofa Arts Initiatives is a Toronto-based artist-run not-for-profit dedicated to advancing equity through public art, creative technology, cultural storytelling, and community engagement.
Founded by artist, educator, and Afrofuturist sculptor Quentin VerCetty, AstroSankofa was created in response to the barriers and underrepresentation faced by Black artists and many equity-deserving communities within the arts sector. What began as a grassroots collective has grown into an award-winning organization that has supported artists, engaged thousands of youth, and transformed public spaces through murals, sculptures, exhibitions, immersive media, and mentorship programs.
Our mission is to create equitable opportunities for artists while empowering youth and communities to imagine new possibilities for themselves and the spaces they inhabit. We believe that creativity can be a catalyst for confidence, connection, leadership, and positive social change.
Volunteers play an essential role in helping us bring this vision to life. By supporting our programs, public art projects, events, and community initiatives, volunteers help expand our impact and strengthen our ability to serve artists, youth, and neighbourhoods across Toronto. Whether assisting with community activations, workshops, exhibitions, or behind-the-scenes operations, volunteers become part of a collective effort to build more inclusive, vibrant, and equitable communities through the power of art and imagination.
Together, we are creating spaces where people feel seen, valued, inspired, and empowered to contribute to a better future.
